Delivering continuous heart monitoring through
a wearable-powered app

About the project
Rytmo is a mobile-first solution born within a major corporate research lab and developed in collaboration with OmniBuds Ltd. It integrates wearable biosensing technology with advanced machine learning models to enable real-time cardiovascular monitoring. The system connects to custom hardware (OmniBuds) devices via Bluetooth, collects physiological data, and processes it locally on the smartphone to ensure privacy. Users can view intuitive dashboards, generate reports, and securely share insights with healthcare providers, supporting continuous, non-invasive heart monitoring in daily life.

Client’s challenges & expectations
The Rytmo team faced the challenge of bringing continuous cardiovascular monitoring out of hospitals and into patients’ daily lives. Existing solutions were fragmented, episodic, and often missed critical health events between visits. Furthermore, many patients and healthcare staff lacked digital experience, rendering complex or poorly designed apps a barrier rather than a solution.
The team aimed to solve these challenges with a patient-first design that required no training, ensured privacy by processing data locally, and delivered clear real-time insights from wearable devices. Just as importantly, they were looking for an innovation-minded partner who could manage both design and development end-to-end, act as a single point of contact, and provide seamless collaboration with fast turnaround times.

Our approach
- Strategy first
- Defined project scope and aligned with the Rytmo team’s vision: clinically reliable, easy-to-use, scalable
- Segmented audiences into patients (simple, supportive flows) and healthcare providers (reporting and data access)
- Structured information architecture around core actions: device setup, monitoring, and report generation
- UX & design
- Applied three design principles: clean, patient-focused, easy to use
- Created wireframes and UI concepts with iterative feedback from the Rytmo team’s stakeholders
- Introduced clear data visualizations, icons, and animations to simplify understanding without overloading users
- Technology & integration
- Developed a cross-platform React Native mobile app with BLE device pairing
- Processed biosignal data locally to ensure privacy, while enabling authorized cloud synchronization
- Integrated ML models for data interpretation and an LLM-powered chat interface for patient guidance
- Built a modular backend with APIs, QA processes, and CI/CD pipelines to support reliability and scaling
- Conversion &
adoption elements- Designed onboarding tutorials to guide users through pairing and setup
- Added contextual help and notifications to build user confidence
- Integrated clear CTAs for generating, sharing, and reviewing health reports

Results
The Rytmo project demonstrated the potential of integrating wearable devices with a patient-friendly mobile app for continuous cardiovascular monitoring. The MVP confirmed that patients could pair devices, collect biosignal data, and access clear reports without requiring training — an important step toward usability in real healthcare settings. While external KPIs are not yet available, the solution has moved beyond the concept stage, showing promise for broader applications in healthtech and laying the groundwork for future collaborations with medical institutions.
- Business value
- A unique, non-invasive heart monitoring solution with real-time data access that stands out in the wearable health market
- A flexible design capable of supporting additional sensors, opening adaptation opportunities for monitoring other conditions
- Potential for hospitals and clinics to adopt Rytmo as a supplementary outpatient monitoring tool, creating new revenue streams through subscriptions or licensing

Working with Halo Lab on Rytmo was a deeply creative partnership. They transformed a challenging health-sensing idea into a clear, elegant design that truly reflects our research vision — thoughtful, precise, and beautifully human.
